DVD Compatibility

Compatibility of our DVDs

MovingImagesNW's DVDs are recorded and burned using the DVD-R format and most newer DVD players support this.  If you insert our DVD into your player and get an error, poor audio or the video jumps or freezes, you might have a compatibility issue with your player.  Please check your manual for supported formats or click here to verify your player's DVD compatibility.

Over 95% of the DVD players on the market today will play your DVDs as they are generally produced by major manufacturerers.  Many of the players that have difficulty playing burned or replicated DVDs (the other 5%) do so because they were rushed to get out on the market and shortcuts were usually taken.  Replicated DVDs - ones produced by Hollywood - are 100% compatible but most manufactureres have a 1000-disc production minimum.  Unfortunately, this process is very expensive ($2500-$5,000) and MovingImagesNW chooses not to go this route in order to keep our costs low to our clients.

We honestly believe that you will enjoy your personalized DVD produced by MovingImagesNW.  Every DVD is tested in one of our players prior to being shipped to check for disc errors.  If you experience difficulty with your DVD, here are some steps you can try:

  • Putting the disc in another player, i.e. a laptop or portable DVD player to test if the player or the disc is the issue.
  • Clean the laser lens in the player (these disc cleaners can be purchased at any store that carries players, discs, etc.)
  • Return your discs to MovingImagesNW for a replacement.  You may have just a bad disc and a new copy may fix the problem.  If the new disc(s) still have issues, then your player is the most likely culprit.
  • Return your player if you purchased it recently – you may be able to exchange it for one that is compatible with the DVD-R format.
  • Buy a new player.  Although this seems a bit drastic, a good, compatible DVD player can cost less than $100.  Many people keep the other player for the guest room or give it as a gift.

Let us know if these suggestions do not fix the problem and we will do everything we can to rectify the situation.
