Approach & Retreat Method of Desensitizing

with Liz Haben

Throughout this session, Liz encourages riders to listen to their horses for any sign of tension or fear, then to “back off” to allow the horse to process their fear and turn it into a desire to “seek out” the object of their fear. Starting with some ground work and progressing to the saddle, various creative “scary” obstacles are utilized to demonstrate how this can be applied. Liz explains in a logical, progressive way how to build confidence in the horse and how to handle things the horse considers stressful.

Running time: 43 minutes
