Barrels and Poles for Group Lessons

with Amy Obringer

Barrel racing and pole bending are speed-based timed events that can involve all levels of riders. Amy outlines strategies and teaches exercises that can be used by both beginners and experienced riders in a group lesson environment. The main strategy of her lesson is three words: “Sit, Lift, Look.” Through controlled and simple exercises, riders learn how to manage their reins, set up barrel pockets, weave poles effectively, rate their horse to the pattern and how slower-paced practice builds a soft and willing horse-rider partnership and faster times. Amy emphasizes exercises that riders of all levels and ages can not only benefit from, but also enjoy working through.

Running time: 43 minutes
