About Our Video Shoots

We specialize in recording live horse events for clients who have placed orders with us. Our work is 100% live action and not scripted - which means no "retakes"! Each camera is an "A" camera; there are no backups. It is imperative to catch each individual as they are riding as there are no second chances. Recording a horse event usually entails long periods of recording and requires attention to detail and commitment to quality. Our videographers need to be comfortable working around large animals and able to handle the stress of recording live events. They need to be able to improvise on the fly, be comfortable with setting up their equipment to get a better angle, and be at ease with technical issues that may arise. It is also helpful to understand the logistics of catching the best video of large animals without interfering with the execution of the event. We record primarily outdoors, so being willing to work in and dressing for all kinds of weather is essential! We provide protection for the equipment from the elements as best we can; protecting yourself is up to you.

Videographers

MovingImagesNW is always looking to add to their list of freelance videographers available for recording indoor and outdoor events. We specialize in horse events, but are also contracted to record clinics, conferences, special events, sporting events, educational videos, and other memorable occasions such as birthdays, reunions, anniversaries, and memorials. It is our desire to expand our team to include many horsemen who are interested in learning the art of recording as well as videographers who would like to apply their craft to recording horse events and other live action occasions.

Editors

MovingImagesNW maintains a list of freelance editors that are contracted when demand is high. Editors are contracted by the project. A project may be outsourced to an editor or an editor may utilize an editing bay at our office. Our editing team focuses on simple, clean, editing techniques that efficiently produce an accurate, quality product.

Self-Training

First time videographers need to self-train about shooting large horse events regardless of past experience. We highly recommend they spend a few hours with one of our seasoned videographers at an event before contracting for a shoot to get a feel of what it takes to shoot at a horse event and to familiarize themselves with logistics, equipment, and methods. Once contracted for a specific shoot/time, they will be considered a paid part of the team, ready to man an independent camera station recording the video required for that station. Self training information videos are available online as well to help prepare for the unique features of recording at horse events. First time editors will be expected to research the product that our clientele pays for before being contracted.

Pay

All freelance videographers are paid a daily rate (dependent on the length of the shoot) at the conclusion of each video project. Videographers who furnish their own camera and tripod will be additionally compensated depending on the quality of their equipment. Videographers may be issued a bonus check for above average to excellent video submitted for editing. Editors' pay is determined by the contract for a given project.

Other Information

Most of our video shoots fall on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  Our videographers need to be able to travel (carpooling is a positive way to save on gas) as MovingImagesNW is contracted to events all over the Pacific Northwest.  We are hopeful that every videographer that contracts with MovingImagesNW is eager to improve skills and will continue self training by critically watching own work, viewing educational videos, and consuming information available about cameras, equipment, and video editing skills, as well as horseman terminology, logistics of horse events, and horse psychology.  We are looking for team players, as the final product is a conglomeration of work from several independent contracted videographers.
